Ross went to his first yoga class when he was 29 after a sports injury. He learned yoga helped with his pain and for a single guy at the time, it was a bonus that the class was mostly women! Ross continued with his yoga practice and went on to obtain his 200hr yoga instructor training in 2004, recertified in 2019 and has now reached his 500hr certification under Daniel Clement at Open Source Yoga. Ross has been actively instructing yoga in Lake Cowichan since 2010, first through Cowichan Recreation and then at Serenity Yoga at the Lake.
To Ross, yoga is Mind, Body & Soul. Yoga brings clarity to his mind, strength and relaxation to his body and healing to his soul. Ross enjoys gardening, taking ballroom dance lessons with his wife Michelle, karaoke with friends, curling and hiking.
With Yoga, Mariko has found a deep appreciation of supporting others whether it be physically, mentally or emotionally. Teaching since 2016, Mariko has had the privilege of holding space for students of diverse backgrounds. As breath work and conscious
movement has helped Mariko heal and grow, she would like to offer the same supports to others. Providing options and a calming attitude, Mariko’s classes are accessible to all.
Mariko is fortunate to live on these unceded Ts’ uubaa-asatx territories and to share yoga practices originating from the Indian Subcontinent. She also has the privilege to work in Duncan at a couple shelters supporting street entrenched community members. Mariko loves spending time with her two kids and partner, as well as kayaking, hiking and reading.
Thank you for sharing your yoga practice with us!
